When looking at literacy and how we interact with our readers, it is important to realize that we are not all the same. When it comes to comprehension, understanding and interpreting the material being read it may look differently to everyone that is reading the material. Understanding that readers and writers come with their own experiences and comprehension is important on being a good teacher. Making sure that readers and writers know that we are not all the same and are unique in our way of think and level of understanding is a step in making sure we are successful in our strategies for becoming effective communicators, teachers and students. Knowing and understanding there are differences are the first steps into taking action so that the environment is a nurturing environment for readers no matter the level they are at. Making sure we are able to express ourselves in a safe and productive manner is important in achieving acceptance and respect. When reading these books it helps to see the messages being sent through these stories and helps the readers see different perspectives they might not have seen otherwise.
